The Problem
An Agilent 1100 HPLC system could not build pressure during startup after installation and connection. The system repeatedly failed the pressure test even though the leak test passed, preventing the instrument from moving into normal operation.
Diagnostics
ScientifiCo reviewed the system connections, checked the installation setup, updated firmware, and evaluated the pump and related support equipment. Pump seals and pump head components were serviced first, but the pressure problem remained.
Pump Repair
Further troubleshooting isolated the fault to a defective outlet check valve on pump B. After the faulty valve was replaced, pump pressure returned to normal behavior.
Supporting Installation Work
Several related setup issues were corrected during the same project so the full installation could operate reliably. These included the nitrogen generator power plug, the vacuum pump cabinet fan system, vacuum pump oil service, and the computer backup battery.
Verification
After repair, both the pressure test and leak test passed. The system was left in proper working condition for normal HPLC operation.
